Now you will totally have to bare with me as this was a complete Grandma style recipe. What I mean by that was my Grandma never measured a damn thing. This woman had friggen ESP when it came to how much of each ingredients something would need. After spending many many moons in the kitchen with her some of this keen sense wore off on me :) (Thank God!)
In to the skillet goes roughly 2-3 tbsp of olive oil followed by 1 whole sliced vidalia onion and about 1 tbsp minced garlic (I used my Ellbees Zesty Garlic for this again)
When the onions get softened then add 2 lbs ground deer meat (or you can use turkey, beef, chicken, etc. who cares as long as it's ground and not going to eat you first) to brown completely
when the meat is browned then add:
1 can sliced mushrooms or about 10 button mushroom sliced up
1 can tomato paste
couple splashed lemon juice (fresh or like I have it above)
1 can diced tomatoes with chilis
1 hefty squish of mustard
1/3 jar of marinara (that was a reused can, this was actually homemade marinara)
1 good drizzel of honey, or about 1 tbsp
3 tbsp almond flour for thickening
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp oregeno
1 tbsp Cajun spice
1 tbsp Weber veggie flake "spice"
Cook for about 10 more minutes then serve however you like!
It may look absolutely horrendous but damn it's tasty! In this case HOT damn. I like spice what can I say?
P.S. You will totally hear more Grammy stories, I learned a lot from her and she was very much a hot headed funny lady.
Favorite line that ever came out of Gram's mouth?
" Well somebodies wrong around here and it sure as hell ain't me!"
Do any of you have a fireball in your life that comes up with some good one liners? If so ....you know the drill....SHARE!
Have a great day everyone!
This looks terrific! I have to say - I LOVE the name! My mother was a bit of a fireball - a devout saint of a woman who firmly believed that church and confession were good for your soul and a beer at 5 o'clock was good for everything else!
ReplyDeleteHa, I love it :) We had a few priests growing up that had that same state of mind.
